Qualifications to be a Commissioner |
• | Must be a qualified voter in Rapides Parish not entitled to assistance in voting. |
• | Must not be a candidate for election to public office or be a member of the immediate family of a candidate for public office in the precinct you are to serve. |
• | Must not have been convicted of an election offense. |
• | Must successfully complete a course of instruction provided by the Clerk of Court. |
• | Must provide the Clerk of Court with correct party affiliation. |
• | Must not be a law enforcement officer. |

The responsibilities of a Commissioner |
• | Complete a general course of instruction and attend any pre-election class required. |
• | Working election day from 5:30 a.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. |
• | Setting up and operating the voting machines during the day. |
• | Identifying voters, determining ballot selection and handling all election paperwork. |
• | Enforcement of election laws. |
• | Closing the machine and completing any paperwork that needs to be deliver to the Clerk. |

Certified commissioner pay |
• | $200.00 per election for commissioners. |
• | $250.00 per election for commissioners-in-charge. |
